REVELATION
I come here to this earth to play music!
I say that because last night, I dreamed a song, incomplete, and the dream went away.
A little while later, the same dream continued, only this time completed, in three parts,
this is to say that the form was A, B, C
In the first dream the only part that expressed itself was the A form.
At 4:30 this morning I came to the realization that I was born to be a musician.
I also realized that I did not, could not recall the song in the dream,
however this is not upsetting because I know that there will be more songs.
I told my daughter, Ashley, that over the course of the past few weeks, I have dreamed songs, again incomplete, and again, not remembering them when I wake.
I have written many songs. I still continue to write songs, not for the fame,
but for the joy of the song, for the joy of creating a song.
The hope is that some day these songs will find a way to be exposed to the world
so that all may enjoy these creations.
A friend of mine, John Arispe, once asked me how I write songs, that is to say, what is my process for writing songs. I replied that when I sit down to write a song, most times I am granted access to the source.
There is a source, a stream of music, that flows constantly, and anyone that can, or is allowed to (and everyone is allowed to), can tap into it.
That is the same source that flows through my dreams. It is ALWAYS ON.
In short, I told John that the songs were sent to me.
I am partial to Jazz (big band, small ensemble, traditional and contemporary)
I also enjoy Soul and R&B because of the jazz influences.
But I enjoy music in all it's forms.
As I stated earlier, I come here to this earth to play music!
Even more than that, I came here to enjoy music!
